LIMBANG (Jan 9): Several low-lying areas, including school compounds, in the district have been flooded following continuous heavy rainfall since Thursday night.

Limbang District Civil Defence Officer Lieutenant (CD) Jumaat Akasas said roads in low-lying areas, such as Kampung Pendam road leading to the ferry terminal, are impassable to all vehicles.

Affected villages include Kampung Lubok Piasau, Kampung Lubok Sigantang, Kampung Kuala Awang, Kampung Telahak, Kampung Pangkalan Rejab, Kampung Lubok Tekurok, Binjai, and Kampung Ulak.

A team led by Corporal (CD) Nurul Najanadhirah Hadri conducted monitoring of flood-prone areas from 9am to noon today, and the situation remained under control.

River water levels in Medamit are normal, while Batu Danau has seen a slight increase but remains manageable.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and avoid wading through deep water to prevent encounters with wildlife such as crocodiles or snakes.

Those in frequency affected areas are urged to move to higher ground or contact rescue agencies for relocation to temporary evacuation centres (PPS).

Important documents should be kept in a single bag, household items elevated, and main electrical switches turned off.
