KUCHING (Dec 5): Hope Place Kuching is providing special milk supplements and adult diapers to a 69-year-old man who remains in a coma at home.
Pius Dompeng is being cared for by his daughter, Atiya, 41, and grandson, Ribert, 20.
“Pius is now at home, still unconscious, and is on tube feeding. Atiya, who worked as a cleaner, had to quit her job to look after her father,” Hope Place said in a statement following the aid handover.
Atiya shared that her father rarely fell ill and seldom underwent medical check-ups.
Earlier this year, he collapsed at home and was rushed to hospital, where doctors discovered a major brain haemorrhage.
In August, he underwent six surgeries and spent a month in hospital. He has remained unconscious ever since.
Hope Place also noted that Pius’ son, Jon, 45, is an outpatient at Sentosa Hospital.
Despite his disability, Jon contributes to the household by collecting and selling recyclables.
Ribert, who works as a labourer at a transport company, is currently the family’s main breadwinner.
Atiya supplements the income with part-time cleaning work, while the family receives RM350 in monthly welfare aid for Jon.
“With Pius’ condition, the family faces heavy financial burdens,” Hope Place said.
The organisation appeals to the public to donate directly to its Maybank account 511289001160 or via the S Pay Global QR code on its Facebook page. Receipts will be issued upon request.
