UNIMAS acclaimed Sarawak with three national, international recognitions

KOTA SAMARAHAN, Oct 6: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) continues to promote the name of Sarawak when two students receive national recognition, while one lecturer gains international recognition.

At the State Student Personality Awards (ATSN) 2026 held in Putrajaya recently, Muhammad Faiz Farhan Yusnizam from the Faculty of Education, Languages and Communication received the Special Award of Minister of Higher Education.

Following on from the success was Avinash a/l Loganathan of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology who received the Student Innovation Entrepreneur of Power Award.

The two awards were presented by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in recognition of students' leadership, efforts and achievements at a national level.

The achievement was also the first UNIMAS achievement in National Student Character Awards since the awards were introduced.

In the same development, Dr. Mohamad Faizuan Mat from the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts (FACA), UNIMAS received Highly Commended recognition at the International Academy Awards for Use of Art in Public and Private Spaces category through The Bin Art Project, Kuching, Sarawak.

The international recognition was presented by the International Academy for Design and Health, Sweden in conjunction with the 15th World Congress & Exhibition of Design & Health 2026 taking place in Kuching.

UNIMAS said in a statement today that the achievements reflect the creativity, innovation and contribution of UNIMAS citizens in the field of leadership, arts and innovation, thus bringing the name of Sarawak university and creative community to international level.

"UNIMAS's top management also congratulated and appreciated both students as well as Dr. Mohamad Faizuan for his achievements and contributions.

"The double success is hoped to inspire the entire campus community to continue achieving excellence in various fields while producing contributions that benefit society and the nation", the statement said. -TVS
