House partially damaged in evening fire

KUCHING: A semi-detached house at Lorong Palma 5, Taman Palma Indah here, was partially damaged in an evening fire yesterday (Jan 30).

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the 5.01 pm incident as a family of three managed to get out to safety.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firemen from Petra Jaya and Padungan stations were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call.

The firefighters had to resort to using water from a nearby fire hydrant to put out the fire.

The fire, which resulted in 40 per cent damages to the kitchen area, was brought under control at 5.34 pm.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
