KUCHING, Sept. 23: The National Technical Professionals Day (HPTN) 2026 in Sarawak this December is expected to bring together over 1,500 exhibitors through 230 exhibition corridors, as well as attracting about 5,000 visitors.

Deputy Prime Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embassy, said the HPTN 2026 visit will be an important platform to bring together technical expertise with real development needs, as well as strengthening knowledge sharing, talent development and cooperation between government agencies, professional bodies, educational institutions and industry.

He said the theme of HPTN 2026, "Sustainable Drivers Technical Profession", carries a clear message that the country's future development requires high technical expertise, appropriate use of technology and commitment to sustainability.

"In the run-up to HPTN's celebration in December, I invite ministries, government agencies, professional bodies, educational institutions and industry partners to provide active support.

"Use this opportunity to connect expertise with the real needs of development. The well-established relationship is continued through knowledge sharing, talent development and collaboration with clear benefits", he said.

The text of his speech was read by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, at the HPTN 2026 Re-launch Meeting here today.

According to Uggah, the theme of HPTN 2026 is also in line with Sarawak's development direction through the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 which emphasizes economic prosperity, social inclusion and environmental sustainability.

He said that HPTN 2026 is expected to be a space for sharing experiences related to the use of technology, professional networking, education and interaction between industry players and society.

He also encouraged students in higher education institutions and schools to take advantage of HPTN guidance to explore technical fields as future options, including science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), technical and vocational education and training (TVET), engineering, technology, construction and architecture.

The pre-launch meeting marks the official start of preparations for the HPTN 2026 summit, which will take place over two days in Kuching this December. -TVS
