KUCHING, 8 Oct: Courage took the opportunity to watch Kuching City FC defender Gabriel Peres create a special moment when his long distance shoot-out successfully generated a net in the opening action of the Shopee Cup at Taha Ariffin Stadium, Petra Jaya, last night.
Gabriel said the suspension wasn't unusual for him because he really enjoyed trying out of the penalty box during training sessions.
According to him, the opportunity arose after seeing an opponent gathered in a defensive area, thus opening up space for him to try.
"I really try to do a stretch every training session because I like trying in different situations.
"We couldn't play from the centre and try to make a long transfer, but I saw all the opponents in the back and I saw space", he said at a press conference after the opening of the 2026/2027 Shopee Cup at Taha Arifin Stadium, here, on Wednesday.
The network also received praise from the head coach of Kuching City FC who described Gabriel as having the strength and qualities to produce such a network.
Gabriel at the same time wanted to maintain momentum and continue helping the team in their next action, while describing the hard work the team does every day as one of the important factors for them to keep competing.
In the match, Kuching City emerged from a 2-1 defeat to Tampines Rovers FC in the opening game, tying the Singaporean side with a 2-2 result to share one point. - TVS
