Immigration blitz nets 36 foreigners across Kuching

KUCHING (Dec 30): Enforcement operations conducted by the Immigration Department here from Monday till today netted a total of 36 foreign nationals across the city.

The department in a Facebook post said those detained were found to have violated provisions under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

“This firm action reflects the continued commitment of the Malaysian Immigration Department in ensuring compliance with the country’s immigration laws,” it said.

The operations, codenamed Ops Gegar, Ops Sapu and Ops Selera, focused on rental rooms used as living quarters by foreign nationals, as well as commercial areas.

Among the locations involved were the Kubah Ria Commercial Centre, Lee Ling Commercial Centre, Mile 5 Jalan Matang, Batu Kawa Commercial Centre, business areas along Jalan Pending, as well as several locations in Gita.

A total of 19 Immigration officers were deployed during the operations.

“Similar operations will be carried out from time to time to ensure security, public order and the sovereignty of the law are consistently upheld,” said the department.
