KUCHING, May 17: A blowpipe competition held in conjunction with the 2026 Bintulu District-Level Mantar Gawai Dayak drew in 60 participants from not just within Sarawak, but also from outside the country, including Brunei— proving that the traditional sport of the Dayak community continues to gain attention and remain relevant across borders.
According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the inaugural event, officiated by Bintulu District Officer Awang Mohammed Nizam Awang Ali Bohan, served as an important platform to preserve and elevate the cultural heritage of the Dayak community while enlivening Gawai Dayak.
Two categories were contested, namely the Novice Category and the Semi-Pro/Open Category for both men and women.
The programme was organised by the Sarawak Dayak Iban Association in collaboration with the Kelab Menyumpit Menaul Bintulu. — DayakDaily
