BAU (Aug 17): An Indonesian man was arrested after being caught riding a stolen motorcycle here, on Friday.

Bau District police chief DSP Jawai Francis Kempas said the foreigner was apprehended by a team from the district’s Criminal Investigation Division, after he was spotted in a village area acting suspiciously.

Upon inspection, it was found that the motorcycle that he was riding was a match to the one reported missing in Kuching.

“As a result, the Indonesian was detained, and the motorcycle was seized to facilitate further investigation.

“A search on the suspect also uncovered a T-shaped metal tool and a modified key that had been turned into a knife,” she said when contacted today.

The suspect, along with the motorcycle and other seized items, was then taken to the Bau District police headquarters for further action.

“The case is currently being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which carries a sentence of imprisonment for not less than six months and not more than five years, as well as a fine, if convicted,” said Jawai.

Members of the public with any information regarding the incident are encouraged to come forward to assist in the investigation.
