SPAOH: Spaoh has the potential to emerge as a commercial agricultural hub through the development of integrated farms that can boost crop production and provide local growers with access to wider markets.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the area’s agricultural potential should be harnessed through commercial-scale production to improve supply chain efficiency and strengthen the sector’s competitiveness.
He said infrastructure and transportation networks in the Betong area, including the Bebuling STOLport, could support efforts to expand the market for agricultural produce from Spaoh to other destinations.
“Produce grown here in Spaoh can be sold outside the area through the Bebuling STOLport, including to Kuching,” he said during a recent visit to Bebuling Agropark to observe the progress of agricultural activities in the area.
Uggah, who is also Bukit Saban assemblyman, said the establishment of the Bebuling STOLport would complement the existing connectivity network while providing an alternative mode of transportation for residents and industry players.
He therefore encouraged the local community to make full use of the infrastructure developed to expand economic activities, particularly in the agricultural sector.
He also stressed the importance of adopting suitable agricultural technologies to improve productivity, production efficiency and crop yields.
He said the use of technology could help make agriculture more competitive and market-oriented, while supporting the development of an integrated agricultural ecosystem in Spaoh.
