SIBU (Feb 12): Outgoing Sibu District police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili has described integrity, strong community cooperation and internal unity as the pillars of his nearly four-year tenure at the Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD Sibu).
In an interview after the IPD Sibu monthly assembly, he said the district police had achieved significant improvements in crime prevention and public service delivery under his leadership.
“In 2025, IPD Sibu successfully reduced the crime index by 36.4 per cent. This reflects the capability, knowledge, commitment and integrity of my officers and personnel in ensuring the highest level of safety in Sibu,” he said.
Reflecting on the challenges he faced while holding the rank of ACP and leading the district, Zulkipli said his prior experience in various departments, including Bukit Aman and assignments in Kuala Lumpur and Johor, helped him navigate his responsibilities in Sibu effectively.
“With the experience I gained previously, I was able to apply the knowledge and exposure in carrying out my duties here,” he added.
He stressed that cooperation and consensus among all IPD Sibu personnel were key to the district’s achievements.
Zulkipli also expressed satisfaction with the measures taken to address crime and social issues in the district, noting that teamwork and strong public engagement played a crucial role.
“The most important thing is to emphasise cooperation with the community, alongside high commitment to duty and prioritising integrity,” he said.
“This ensures that the tasks we carry out are of quality and that we maintain good relations with the public.
“As the motto goes, the police and the community cannot be separated. With the synergy among agencies in Sibu, we are better able to address crime and social issues together,” he added.
Zulkipli also expressed his appreciation to fellow department heads at both federal and state levels for their cooperation throughout his tenure of three years and 10 months as Sibu police chief.
“Tomorrow (Feb 13) will be my last day at IPD Sibu. I would like to thank all my colleagues and officers who have given their fullest commitment in serving the community, especially in Sibu,” he said.
Zulkipli is scheduled to report for duty at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters on Feb 16 as the Head of the Management Department.
Offering advice to his successor, he stressed the importance of upholding integrity, strengthening internal unity and maintaining close ties with the community.
“Have confidence in the officers and personnel. With strong teamwork, commitment and integrity, I believe IPD Sibu will continue to maintain peace and public confidence in the district,” he said.
