KUCHING, 5 Oct: The success of Sarawak International Digital Economy Conference (IDECS) 2026 should be measured by the extent to which the ideas and discussions initiated have been translated into innovations, projects and investments that make a real impact.

Sarawak Utility and Telecommunications Minister Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said that the Government of Sarawak wants to ensure that IDECS is not only a platform for sharing ideas, but also capable of opening up new space for cooperation as well as opportunities that contribute to the development of Sarawak's digital economy.

"Through the fields of artificial intelligence, semiconductor innovation, cities of the future, emerging digital talent and a space economy, our focus is increasingly on moving from research and ideas to pioneering projects, implementation and commercial opportunities", he said.

He said that while speaking at the IDECS 2026 Gala Dinner at a hotel here tonight.

Attended by the Sarawak Prime Minister, Tan Sri's great grandfather Johari Tun Openg.

According to Julaihi, IDECS also has a role in recognizing the efforts and achievements of industry players through Digital Economy Awards (DEA), besides providing more space and opportunities for young people in the state.

He said, the recognition through DEA proves the ability of new generations in producing innovations that have the potential to bring Sarawak's name to a global level.

"We want them to see a future where their talents can flourish here, in Sarawak, with the freedom to realize ideas and contribute on a broader scale", he said.

In the meantime, Julaihi called for a continued commitment to green development through the use of advanced technologies that prioritize environmental sustainability.

"While we're leveraging technology, we must do so with environmental sustainability and future generations in mind", he explained.
