MIRI (Feb 15): Junior Chamber International (JCI) Malaysia Area Sarawak paid a courtesy call on Miri mayor Adam Yii to strengthen collaboration with the Miri City Council.

During the visit, the delegation led by JCI Malaysia Area Sarawak chairman Siew Young Ming extended their congratulations to Yii on attaining JCI Senatorship and also shared their upcoming 2026 initiatives centred on youth empowerment and community development.

“Discussions touched on the city’s main development priorities for the next three to five years, key challenges faced by the local community, and the potential role JCI could play in supporting youth development efforts in Miri,” it said in a statement.

It said that among the issues highlighted were environmental sustainability, particularly the reduction of single-use plastics and management of food waste.

“An estimated 200kg to 300kg of food are wasted daily, underscoring the need for collaborative and sustainable solutions involving local organisations and community partners.

“JCI Malaysia Area Sarawak reaffirms our commitment to working closely with the Miri City Council and relevant stakeholders to drive community-based initiatives, promote sustainable practices and empower youths to take on active leadership roles in shaping a progressive and resilient Miri,” it said.
