KUALA LUMPUR, 20 September: A total of 22 areas across the country have recorded air pollution index (IPU) readings at unhealthy levels as of 9am this morning.
According to the Malaysian Air Pollution Index Management System (APIMS) portal, the highest readings were recorded at IPD Serian (182) in Sarawak, while seven areas in the state recorded unhealthy IPUs, namely Samarahan (168), Kuching (166), Sri Aman (163), Bintulu (153), Sibu (152), Sarikei (116) and Samalaju (105).
Five areas in Johor also recorded unhealthy IPU readings, namely Larkin (162), Batu Pahat and Sand Warehouse respectively recorded IPU records (155) as well as Segamat (154) and Tangkak (153).
In addition, Putrajaya and Val in Negeri Sembilan respectively recorded 154 runs, while Shah Alam, Selangor scored 152 runs, followed by Cheras in Kuala Lumpur (133) and Seremban, Negeri Sembilan (127).
The IPU was also reported in Bukit Rambai, Melaka, recording readings of 121, the City of Melaka (114), while in Selangor, Johan Setia (112) and Petaling Jaya (102).
Meanwhile, as many as 40 regions recorded readings at a moderate level, while five regions recorded good readings.
IPU readings of zero to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy) and 301 above (dangerous). -TVS
