KUCHING, 13 Oct: All primary and secondary schools under the supervision of Serian, Sri Aman and Antu Lubok Regional Education Office (PPD) will be closed tomorrow due to fog.
The Sarawak State Education Department (JPN) in a statement today announced that the decision was made based on continuous monitoring and reading of Air Pollution Index (IPU) up to 2pm, as well as report from the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
"In this regard, the Home Teaching and Learning (PdPR) session will be conducted during the period of temporary school closure, while teachers and members of the executive group (AKP) are allowed to work from home (BDR)", according to the statement.
However, the Special Schools Admission Assessment (PKSK), Malaysian Religious Higher Certificate Examination (STAM) and Sarawak Six Year Dual Language Programme Assessment Exam (UP-DLPS 6) continued as scheduled.
JPN Sarawak also informed the headmasters and principals of nearby districts who recorded IPU readings above 150 can consider implementing PdPR based on health and safety factors.
If IPU readings show a downward trend to below 150, the school may make preparations for reopening.
JPN Sarawak advises all educational institutions under its supervision to monitor IPU readings through the Environment Department's Air Pollution Index Management System (APIMS) Portal as well as comply with the recommendations of the Ministry of Health Malaysia to ensure the health and safety of students and schoolchildren.
