KUCHING: Sarawak’s men’s basketball team suffered a 63-84 defeat at the hands of a dominant Johor side in their 5×5 match at the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) yesterday.

Johor wasted no time in asserting their dominance, scoring a two-pointer within the opening 10 seconds. This early salvo set the tone for a challenging encounter for Sarawak.

The first quarter saw Johor establish control, outscoring Sarawak 21-14. This advantage only widened in the second period as Johor’s relentless offense and stout defence proved too much for Sarawak to handle.

At halftime, the score stood at a daunting 54-29 in Johor’s favour.

Sarawak showed glimpses of resilience in the third quarter, mounting a spirited fightback. However, Johor’s grip on the game remained firm, and they extended their lead to 69-44 by the end of the period.

Both teams battle it out during an intense match.

Despite a determined effort in the final quarter, Sarawak were unable to bridge the gap, and Johor ultimately secured an 84-63 victory.

Sarawak’s women’s team will face Johor in another 5×5 match later yesterday.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Sian and Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng were present to lend their support to the home team.
