Julau MP calls for greater civil service diversity when candidates are equally qualified

KUCHING, Sept 29: Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng has called for civil service diversity to be prioritised alongside merit when candidates are equally qualified.

In a recent statement, he voiced support for greater representation in principle while acknowledging that existing political structures can complicate progress.

“I believe that these sensitive questions should be addressed when the government is strong,” he said, warning that political fragmentation only makes difficult discussions harder.

He noted that his goal in raising the topic was to build long-term stability rather than divide society, acknowledging that even Sarawak still has room for improvement in diversifying its public sector.

Turning to leadership, Sng asserted that responsible politicians have a duty to protect vulnerable and minority communities, regardless of race or religion.

Drawing from Sarawak’s social experience, he pointed to unity built on a shared identity, mutual support, and deep family ties that span ethnic and religious lines.

Sng also urged young Malaysians to broaden their perspectives, participate actively in the political process, and take ownership of the nation’s direction.

“Don’t just confine yourself to KL or the Klang Valley—go out and travel a lot more.

“Go to Kelantan, Sarawak, Penang, Johor. I think we, as young people, need to take responsibility for our future,” he advised. — DayakDaily
