KUCHING, Sept 22: Lubok Antu’s Air Pollutant Index (API) reading has dropped from 205 at 9am on Monday (Sept 21) to 155 as of 10am today, bringing it down from ‘very unhealthy’ to ‘unhealthy’, while Kanowit’s API reading has climbed from 209 to 231 during the same period.

According to the Natural Resources and Environment Board Sarawak (NREB), several areas in the State remain in the unhealthy category, namely Sibu (178), Belaga and Betong (171), Sri Aman and Mukah (169), Serian (159), Kuching and Sarikei (157), Bintulu and Samalaju (156), Kapit and Lubok Antu (155), and Samarahan (154).

Meanwhile, moderate readings were recorded in Tebedu (97), Miri (93), ILP Miri and Lundu (92), Limbang (83), and Lawas and Bario (74).

On Monday, the Sarawak Education Department (JPN Sarawak) decided to temporarily close all primary and secondary schools under the Lubok Antu and Kanowit District Education Offices (PPDs) effective immediately.

This was due to the ‘very unhealthy’ readings recorded in the two districts at that time. — DayakDaily
