KUCHING (July 12): The Kaul Mukah 2024 taking place from July 13 to 21 will feature the Malam Konsert Perpaduan concert, said organising committee chairman Abdul Yakub Arbi.

The Balingian assemblyman said the concert, which will be held at the Kaul Mukah site, is a collaborative effort with Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS).

“On that night, various exciting performances will be showcased including an appearance by YPS’ sape ambassador and local artistes such as Iwan Dris, Morse Uotye and Wanie Alias,” he said.

He said this at a press conference here yesterday which was also attended by YPS chief executive Datu Aloysius Dris.

Abdul Yakub added that YPS will also set up a booth at an exhibition during Kaul Mukah 2024.

One the programme’s highlights is the ‘Malam Galau Cats’, where popular artistes including Khai Bahar and Melissa Francis are set to perform.

“The programme will feature a week-long development exhibition, with participation from various government and private institutions.

“An entertainment stage will also be set up to further enliven Kaul Mukah, featuring Melanau Idol, Melanau Artistes’ Concert, Buskers’ Performances, Bermukun competition, Melanau traditional dance competition, and Teluwih competition,” he said.

Elaborating further on Kaul Mukah, Abdul Yakub said it is generally divided into two main events, namely the Kaul Seraheng Kakan and Kaul Festival.

The Kaul Seraheng Kakan retains traditional ceremonies and is held before the Kaul Festival, while the Kaul Festival itself is a carnival featuring various activities including stage performances, games, traditional and modern performances, competitions, sales and exhibitions.

Abdul Yakub said the organisers are targeting over 10,000 visitors for this year’s event including those from Peninsular Malaysia and Brunei.

“The objective of Kaul Mukah is to showcase the unique culture of the Melanau people to the outside community. It serves as a platform to preserve the Melanau culture through annual cultural events and activities,” he said.
