KBS deploys anti-doping teams to SUKMA Sarawak

MIRI: The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) has taken significant measures to ensure a clean and safe sporting environment at SUKMA Sarawak 2024, deploying teams from the Anti-Doping Agency of Malaysia (ADAMAS) to various venues.

This was disclosed by KBS secretary-general Dr  K. Nagulendran during a visit to the Miri Media Centre today.

According to Dr Nagulendran, the ministry’s efforts extend beyond doping control, stressing the importance of promoting a drug-free sporting environment.

“We have raised awareness about doping and established doping centres at several locations. Our aim is to encourage the development of sports free from the influence of drugs,” he said.

Dr Nagulendran also highlighted the introduction of the Safe Sport Code by KBS last year, a document aimed at ensuring athletes can train and compete without the threats of bullying, sexual harassment, or other forms of abuse.

He expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the code during his recent visit to the dormitories at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas).

“I was very pleased to see officials from the National Sports Council (MSN) actively promoting the Safe Sport Code. It is crucial for our athletes to train in a safe environment, and they now have clear guidance on who to contact if they experience any form of interference,” he  added.

Accompanying Dr Nagulendran during his visit were Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport, and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Dr. Ripin Lamat and Miri Resident Jamalie Busri.
