KANGAR, 19 September: The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) is gaining the views of young people through a series of MADANI Youth Budget Excursions in six locations to identify their needs for consideration in Budget 2027 next month.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Mordi Bimal said that the tour is now in three locations including Sabah, Sarawak and Melaka.

He said that among the issues raised by youths during the three series of tours implemented were employment, economy, youth leadership and sports facilities.

"This may sound commonplace, but it is among the needs raised by the people and we need to take care of this", he said at the Townhall Programme with Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports in conjunction with the State Level Perlis 2026 Youth Inspired Twins Programme (KIBAR) in the House of Assembly 2020, here today.

Mordi said that the series of tours were conducted by zone to get direct feedback from youth on their need to be brought up to budget planning stage 2027.

Last September, KBS reportedly submitted the preliminary framework of Budget 2027 proposal to the Ministry of Finance, with development of root-based sports, youth engagement and athletic well-being among the priorities given attention.

Meanwhile, commenting on mental health issues among youths, Mordi said KBS also provides various programs through the Rakan Muda initiative to encourage them to practice healthy lifestyles.

"Many factors contribute to mental health problems. At KBS itself, through 10 Lifestyles of Young People under Young People, we have a variety of programs to help address this issue.

"Not directly, but we provide programs that promote healthy lifestyles among young people and give them opportunities and space to actively engage in daily activities so they don't get depressed", he said. - TVS
