14 selected essential items under the Christmas 2025 SHMMP.
KUCHING (Dec 23): Ahead of upcoming Christmas celebration, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding consumer welfare by gazetting maximum prices for 14 selected essential items under the Christmas 2025 Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP).
As part of the Madani Government’s people-centric and caring approach for Malaysians, the initiative reflects proactive efforts by KPDN to ease cost-of-living pressures by implementing price controls in conjunction with the Christmas festive season.
The scheme will be in effect for five days, from Dec 23 to Dec 27, 2025, covering price controls at both the wholesale and retail levels to ensure a stable supply of essential goods at reasonable prices.
Among the controlled items are live aged chickens (Sarawak only), chicken wings (Sarawak, Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan), imported bone-in mutton, as well as live pigs regulated at the farm level in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan. Also included are pork products such as pork belly, pork meat and fat.
The list further comprises fresh produce and imported vegetables, including imported round cabbage, Chinese carrots, imported Chinese potatoes, tomatoes, red chillies, green bell peppers, large red onions and large yellow onions.
The implementation of SHMMP Christmas 2025 is seen as a timely measure to help consumers, particularly the Christian community, plan their festive spending prudently without being burdened by unreasonable price hikes while ensuring fair and transparent pricing for traders.
KPDN emphasised that enforcement activities will be carried out throughout the implementation period to ensure traders’ compliance with the gazetted maximum prices and to prevent profiteering.
The SHMMP underscores the Madani Government’s continued commitment to protecting consumer interests and ensuring that festive celebrations remain affordable and inclusive.
