KUCHING, April 7: Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah called on all Sarawakians to unite in supporting Kuching City FC, which is currently generating positive momentum in the State’s football scene.
Abdul Karim highlighted the significance of the Malaysia Cup semi-final clash between Selangor FC and Kuching City FC, held last Sunday at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium, and looked ahead to the second-leg match on April 18.
“As Sarawakians, we should definitely support the Sarawak team, even if it’s represented by Kuching.
“But when we look closely, even though it’s called Kuching, it represents all of Sarawak. It’s great that whether we are from Limbang, Miri, or Bintulu, we all give our support,” he told a press conference after unveiling the Teresa Teng 31st Memorial Tribute Concert at Sarawak Club today.
Looking at the first-leg performance, Abdul Karim, who is also Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Art, noted that the team put up a good fight away from home, securing a 1-1 draw.
“We will win the second leg, InshaAllah. I am very confident in the team’s performance, but we still have another 90 minutes to go. My hope is that the people of Sarawak, whether from Kuching, Samarahan, Sibu, or Miri, will come in large numbers to the stadium on the night of April 18 to witness history being made,” he said.
He also noted the broader impact of Kuching City FC’s success on football in Sarawak.
“It has been a long time since Sarawak reached this stage in football. With a team like this, the excitement is there, and the spirit of unity through sports is alive. We can see that this is a new revival of soccer in Sarawak,” he added. — DayakDaily
