KUCHING (Jan 22): Kuching City FC has completed the signing of Jordanian midfielder Ahmad Israiwah as they look to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the Malaysia Super League season.

The club confirmed on Wednesday that the 31-year-old has joined The Cats after leaving PDRM FC to be a free agent earlier this month.

The move is seen as a key reinforcement for Kuching City, who are currently among the league’s top three, to sustain their momentum in the second half of the campaign.

Israiwah spent the first half of the season with PDRM, making 13 appearances in all competitions and registering one assist. He featured regularly in the Super League and can be expected to slot into the squad immediately without needing an adaptation period.

Head coach Aidil Sharin Sahak is believed to have played a major role in securing the midfielder’s signature, as the coach is keen to add more creativity to the middle of the park.

At PDRM, Israiwah was often deployed in deeper or wider roles. At Kuching City, however, he is expected to be used in a more advanced playmaking position to provide service to the forwards, including Ronald Ngah.

The signing follows the recent arrival of defender Ariff Farhan from Penang, making Israiwah the club’s second notable addition during the January transfer window.

Israiwah, a left-footed midfielder, has previously played for several clubs in Jordan, including Al-Wehdat and Al-Faisaly, and is an international for the Jordan national team.

With the Super League entering a crucial phase, Kuching City will be hoping the experienced midfielder can provide an extra creative spark as they push for a strong finish to the season.
