KUCHING (March 19): Police have arrested two local men suspected of involvement in a cable vandalism case that recently went viral on social media.

Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspects, aged between 30 and 38, were apprehended at about 11.30pm on Tuesday in separate locations along Jalan Merdeka and Jalan Astana in Petra Jaya.

“Police also seized three vehicles along with several tools believed to have been used to cut cables,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

He added that both suspects have prior criminal records, and urine screening tests conducted on them returned positive results for drugs.

“The case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction,” he said.

Alexson advised the public to refrain from engaging in criminal activities and urged those with information to contact the Kuching District Police Headquarters Control Centre at 082-244444.
