KUCHING (Dec 28): Kuching district police headquarters (IPD Kuching) will launch ‘Op Lancar’ from Dec 29 to Jan 2 at major roads here to prevent road accidents and reduce traffic congestion.

Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the operation is being carried out as Kuching city is expected to draw large crowds during the school holidays and public holidays within the period.

He added that a total of 10 senior officers and 40 personnel will be deployed to ensure its successful implementation.

“Among the roads that will be the focus of the police during this operation are Jalan Gambier, Jalan Wan Alwi, Jalan Lapangan Terbang, Jalan Tun Jugah, Jalan Tabuan, Jalan Stutong Baru, Jalan Setia Raja, Jalan Pending, Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakop and Jalan Rock.

“As such, the public is advised to plan their journeys early to avoid traffic congestion, especially during peak hours, the school holiday season and the year-end shopping period,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

Alexson said the police will continue monitoring and enforcing traffic regulations to ensure smooth traffic flow, particularly in areas with high public concentration.

He advised the public to always drive carefully, comply with traffic rules, and practise prudent and courteous behaviour on the roads.

“The cooperation and awareness of the public are greatly appreciated in ensuring safety, comfort and smooth traffic flow, particularly in the Kuching district,” he said.

The public is also advised to use the recommended alternative routes, follow instructions from on-duty traffic police officers, and practise patience and tolerance while on the road to prevent congestion from worsening.
