Kuching is hosting the WITSA Global AI Summit 2027

KUCHING, 5 Oct: Kuching will be the focus of global technology industry players when Sarawak hosts World Innovation, Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) Global AI Summit 2027 in conjunction with the 10th Sarawak International Digital Economy Conference (IDECS) next year.

Sarawak Prime Minister, Datuk Tinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the meeting will bring together leaders of technology industry, government and international innovation ecosystems, thus connecting Sarawak's artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem with global networks.

"Next year, IDECS will enter its 10th edition. Together with IDECS 2027, Sarawak will also welcome the world to Kuching as host of WITSA Global AI Summit 2027", he said.

He said this while addressing the inaugural Sarawak International Digital Economy Conference (IDECS) 2026 at Borneo Kuching Convention Centre (BCCK), here, today.

According to Brother Johari, Sarawak's partnership with WITSA through the Global AI Ecosystem Network will open up broader links with international partners in the fields of technology, investment, research and policy.

"We welcome partners who are willing to work with us for the long term, strengthen local capacity and connect what is being developed here with opportunities across Malaysia, ASEAN and beyond", he said.

He said the summit also brought several international platforms to Sarawak, including WITSA Global AI Awards and WITSA World Cup 2nd for Zohari Challenge Trophy.

He also said that the second WITSA Global AI Index will be launched to assess the development of the world's AI ecosystem including infrastructure, talent, entrepreneurship, applications, data, policies and investments.
