KUCHING (Feb 20): A 32-year-old man has been sentenced to five years and two months in prison as well as one stroke of the cane for repeatedly abusing amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Sessions Court Judge Iris Awen Jon convicted Kamar Bahari on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (DDA), which is punishable under Section 39C(1)(b) of the same Act.
The Section carries an imprisonment term of between five and seven years, along with a maximum three strokes of the cane upon conviction.
Kamar has two prior convictions for the same offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the DDA in January and February of 2024.
The judge also ordered Kamar to undergo supervision for two years following the completion of his custodial sentence.
According to the facts of the case, Kamar was found positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine at the office of the Kuching District Police Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department at 1.35am on May 28, 2025.
Deputy public prosecutor Asmawi Nur Haqim Mokhtar appeared for the prosecution, while Kamar was unrepresented.
