Kuching manufacturer fined RM50,000 for unsafe work system resulting in forklift mishap

KUCHING (Feb 20): The Sessions Court here recently fined a manufacturing company RM50,000 for failing to provide a safe system of work.

According to a statement by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Sarawak, this resulted in an accident involving forklift operations to stack pallets containing pipe fittings on March 15 last year.

The accident occurred at around 3.40pm at a factory in the Pending Industrial Estate here.

DOSH said the company, represented by its factory manager, pleaded guilty before Judge Noorhisham Mohd Jaafar after it was charged under Section 15(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (Osha) 1994.

The prosecution was conducted by DOSH Sarawak prosecuting officer Mohd Mohsein Ibrahim.

The case was investigated by investigating officers Abdullah Pullian and Mohd Faisal Mohd Nadzir.
