KUCHING: History was made at the Association of Wives of Ministers and Assistant Ministers of Sarawak (Sabati) building with the official launching of the Laila Gallery here on today.
The gallery named in honour of the founder and the first president of Sabati, the late Datuk Patinggi Laila Taib, was launched by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He commended Sabati members for their persistent efforts in establishing the gallery to display the history and activities of the association which covers various charitable works since its establishment.
“Hopefully with this gallery, the current and future Sabati members continue to contribute to the welfare and the well-being of the community,” he said during the opening ceremony at Wisma Sabati here.
Abang Johari stated that the pictures exhibited in the gallery showed the stories and journey of Sabati from the moment of its establishment to the present day.
“Seeing it, I truly hope that it will give inspiration to the leaders, especially the husbands, to also work hard for the rakyat while also improving the living standard of Sarawakians.
“We would also like to express our gratitude and appreciation to the founder, Laila, who gathered all the ministers’ wives to volunteer to help and benefit the community as a whole.
“Her compassion and passion to help the people is always remembered by us,” he said.
The Laila Gallery was established to showcase the history and activities of Sabati since it was established on August 6, 1982.
