Lakib continues to focus on welfare of Muslims in Bintulu

BINTULU (March 15): The Bintulu Islamic Welfare Trust Board (Lakib) vows to ensure that the welfare of Muslims in this division would continue to receive attention and priority, particularly those in need.

According to the board chairman Iskandar Turkee, Lakib not only serves as a trustee for welfare matters, but also acts as a platform to strengthen the spirit of unity, compassion and social responsibility among the Muslim community here.

The Jepak assemblyman said this when officiating at the a presentation of contributions to mosques, suraus and education recipients, as well as Hari Raya assistance for the ‘asnaf’ (those eligible to receive welfare aid), at the Martabat Building, RPR Sebiew Housing Scheme here on Saturday.

Also present were his wife Dayang Loha Awang Sahari, Bintulu Orphans Welfare Organisation (Peryatim) chairman Dato Haidar Asghar Khan, as well as local Malay community leaders Temenggung Rosli Kamarudin and Pemanca Awang Merais Pengiran Ismail.

At the event, Iskandar said Lakib was channelling education assistance amounting to RM313,600 to 257 students across certificate, diploma and degree levels.

The Aidilfitri assistance amounting to RM437,200 was meant for 2,186 asnaf from 46 villages across this division, and RM30,200 for 151 Jepak constituents.

Meanwhile, 410 orphans also received contributions of RM200 each under a collaboration between Peryatim Bintulu and Lakib.

An allocation of RM90,000 was for 21 mosques, 14 suraus and five suraus located within premises.

In another development, Iskandar said Lakib was planning several larger welfare initiatives in the future, including the development of a Lakib Dialysis Centre.

“We realise that the cost of dialysis treatment is a major challenge for many patients and their families,” he added.
