Landslide hits Rumah Kujat in Kanowit, no injuries reported

SIBU (Jan 3): A landslide occurred at Block A, Rumah Kujat at Jalan Kanowit this afternoon, causing minor damage to the longhouse.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, a distress call was received at 2.19pm, prompting firefighters from Kanowit station to be deployed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the operations commander conducted a size up and confirmed that a landslide had occurred at the rear of Block A, affecting two housing units.

“It caused the rear concrete floor of door number 2 to collapse, and minor damage to the kitchen area of the unit,” the department said in a statement.

Firefighters immediately installed safety barricades around the affected area and advised residents to remain alert due to the unstable ground conditions.

The first housing unit had 10 occupants — five males and five females — while the second unit had a male and a female occupants. No injuries were reported.

After ensuring the situation was under control and the area safe, the firefighting team concluded operations at 2.41pm and returned to the station.
