A Bomba personnel inspects the unoccupied house.
SIBU (Jan 10): A landslide occurred this afternoon behind an unoccupied private house near Rumah Sulang, Sungai Kelawit, Tatau.
According to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a distress call was received at around 3.08pm, prompting five personnel from Tatau Bomba to be dispatched to the scene, approximately 8km away.
“Upon arrival, it was confirmed that a landslide had occurred at the back of the private house located behind Rumah Panjang Sulang,” the department said.
Bomba’s on-site team monitored the area, and decided that no evacuation was necessary as the house, an old structure measuring 3m x 8m, is unoccupied and only used for furniture storage.
The electricity supply remains intact, and only livestock at the property were affected by the landslide.
“After gathering information and ensuring the area was completely safe, the team returned to base at 3.38pm,” Bomba said.
