KUCHING (Jan 30): The Magistrates’ Court in Lawas today has allowed the forfeiture and disposal of 35 units of MyGaz subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders after no claims were made for the seized items.

The order followed applications filed by the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS), which were granted by Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus.

UKPS officers Ahmad Azroy Shafiq and Paddril Peter filed the applications under Section 23A of the Distribution of Gas Ordinance (DGO) 2016 (Chapter 72) and Section 407A of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Deputy public prosecutor Ronald Felix Hardin supported the applications, informing the court that the subsidised LPG cylinders were seized by authorised officers from UKPS and the State Ministry of Utilities and Telecommunication during several enforcement operations last November.

He said the seizures were made after the licence permit for the distribution and retail of MyGaz subsidised LPG in Sarawak had not been renewed since the end of 2023.

As no party came forward to claim the seized items within the prescribed period, the cylinders were handed over for further action in accordance with the DGO.
