KUCHING, Oct 3: The construction of the Lawas Minor Specialist Hospital is progressing according to schedule, with an expected completion date of June 2025.
Federal Deputy Health Minister Dato Lukanisman Awang Sauni, in a TVS news report, highlighted that the hospital is now 84.66 per cent complete as of Sept 30, 2024.
The 76-bed facility will cater to more than 60,000 residents of Lawas and will be equipped with various medical services.
“While construction is on schedule, a few issues raised by the contractor will require the cooperation of the local authorities (PBT) to resolve,” Lukanisman noted after attending a meeting and receiving a briefing on the project’s progress.
Once completed, the hospital is expected to drive a surge in human resources, with more medical staff needed to support its operations.
Some specialist doctors have already been stationed in Lawas, while others are temporarily based at Miri Hospital.
Lukanisman, who is also the Sibuti MP, emphasised the importance of strong commitment from implementing agencies, particularly contractors and local authorities, to ensure smooth project execution.
In addition to the Lawas Minor Specialist Hospital, the Ministry of Health is also overseeing the construction of the Lawas Health Clinic. — DayakDaily
