Lescott FC crowned champions of Serian CNY football carnival

KUCHING (Feb 18): A three-week football carnival held in conjunction with the Chinese New Year concluded with a final match and closing ceremony in Kampung Temong Bengan, Serian, on Tuesday.

Serian MP Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem officiated at the closing ceremony of the 11-a-side tournament and witnessed the final match between Lescott FC and Lans United.

The carnival, which ran from Feb 1 to 17, drew participation from 16 teams. Host team Pinyaring FT finished third, while ETB FC from Kampung Entubuh placed fourth.

Lescott FC emerged champions after defeating Lans United 2-0 in the final.

The winners received RM500 in cash, a trophy and medals. The runners-up took home RM300 along with a trophy and medals, while third-placed Pinyaring FT earned RM200 and received a trophy and medals.

In his speech, Richard congratulated all participating teams, particularly those who advanced to the final stage.

“Football is not merely a sport but a means of fostering unity, discipline and character building. Continue to embrace a healthy lifestyle and uphold strong sportsmanship,” he said.

He added that such tournaments could help uncover new talents capable of representing the district or state at higher levels, noting that his office would continue to support community sports programmes.

Among those present were Serian District Council councillor Cr Michaelina Riot and SUPP Serian branch assistant chairman Maclister Riot.
