KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has urged to allow Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to govern the country until the end of the current parliamentary term.

In stating this, Abang Johari called for adherence to democratic principles, urging leaders to respect electoral outcomes.

“If Anwar is already there (as Prime Minister), let him serve until the end of his term.

“This is because our country is based on democracy, and when an election is held, and such are the results, we should abide by it.

“If we choose to stop it midway, this is what we call ‘tebuk atap’ (backdoor government), and this will create chaos, and the victims are the people,” he said.

He said this during the ‘Seventh Year with the Premier’ Townhall Session held at the Satok Ballroom, Hikmah Exchange Event Centre here last night (Jan 14).

In response to recent discussions about the ‘Dubai Move,’ Abang Johari dismissed it as a waste of time and detrimental to the people.

It was reported that the opposition allegedly intended to offer Abang Johari the prime minister’s position.

As such, he asserted that he is not ‘paloi’ (stupid) to engage in political turmoil.

“I know the measurements for the clothes on my body. If this is the size of my clothes, then this is how it should be.

“Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) only has 23 Members of Parliament (MPs). If the opposition plans to replace the current prime minister with me, then with Anwar gone, we are only numbered at 23.

“We wouldn’t stay long in that position and would be toppled. I am not ‘paloi’,” he stressed.

The term ‘Dubai Move’ alludes to a purported meeting in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) between leaders of the Malaysian opposition party and government officials, with the alleged intention of orchestrating a political coup against Anwar and his government.

Apart from that, Abang Johari also stressed the need for stability in national politics and advised leaders to prioritise the welfare of the people after assuming leadership roles.

He highlighted Sarawak’s success in the 2021 state election as a testament to the people’s confidence in a leadership focused on stability rather than political manoeuvres.

“The success Sarawak achieved in the 2021 State Election demonstrates the people’s confidence in a leadership committed to stability and non-political agendas.

“This is the mandate given, and we need to work hard to deliver,” he asserted
