LIMBANG (Jan 2): This district generated an estimated RM2.5 million in revenue for local traders and entrepreneurs through 14 major programmes organised by the Limbang District Main Festive Committee throughout last year.
State Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said these programmes also recorded some 200,000 participants.
In this regard, he announced that the committee would introduce two additional major celebrations this year, bringing the total number of flagship programmes to 16 , including the highly-anticipated ‘Pesta Limbang’.
The Bukit Kota assemblyman told reporters this when met at the New Year’s Eve celebration on Lot 777 parking area here on Thursday.
Among the major programmes scheduled for 2026 are Agrofest, Pesta Badudun and Buffalo Racing, Northern Region Music Festival, Pesta Babulang, Pesta Nuba Laya, Gawai Festival, Pesta Lumpur Bebuak, Bukit Mas Day, Pesta Jeti Santaba, and also the International Tug-of-War competition.
Dr Abdul Rahman said the initiatives were part of Sarawak’s efforts to draw more visitors to Limbang, particularly from neighbouring Brunei.
He added that 2025 marked the final year of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), with Sarawak entering the 13MP this year.
He noted that several major development projects were currently underway in Limbang, including Phase II of the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR2), the Northern Coastal Highway (NCH), and the Trans Borneo Highway.
“All three projects are expected to be completed by 2030, in line with Sarawak’s target of achieving high-income developed region status.
“I also hope that 2026 would bring more continued progress and positive developments for Sarawak, and Limbang in particular, under the leadership of the Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.”
Also present were Limbang District Council chairman Sufian Mohat, Limbang Resident’s Office representative Aspalela Mohamad Sahmoni, and Limbang District police chief Supt Parum Niot.
