Limbang man fined RM700 for possessing illegal lottery tickets

MIRI (Aug 12): The Magistrates’ Court here today fined a man RM700 in default two weeks in jail for possessing illegal lottery tickets.

Senior Assistant Registrar Mohammad Helmi Ahmad Jani convicted Franky, 41, of Kampung Ukong, Limbang on his own guilty plea to a charge framed under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1963, which is punishable under the same Section.

The Section provides for a fine not exceeding RM5,000, or up to six months in jail, or both, upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, Franky was found to be in possession of a few pieces of paper containing illegal lottery ticket numbers.

He committed the offence on Aug 11 at around 5pm in front of a lot in Desa Senadin.

Insp Mudzilawati Abdul Rahman prosecuted the case while Franky was unrepresented by a legal counsel.
