MIRI (March 15): The upgrading works on the road linking Logan Entassan to Benawa in Marudi are progressing well and are expected to ease long-standing access problems faced by villagers in the area.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Gerawat Gala said the project involves upgrading a 4.2-kilometre stretch of road that has remained unrepaired for many years, making daily travel difficult for residents.

“The upgrading works were carried out following requests from residents of Kampung Hizrah, as the road serves as the main access route for children travelling to SK Benawa and for students commuting to secondary schools in Marudi,” he said after inspecting the project site on Saturday.

According to the Mulu assemblyman, the project was funded through an allocation of RM900,000 under the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) fund.

He added that he has instructed the Public Work Department (JKR) to prepare a proposal to upgrade the road to a tarred standard, noting that the process would involve coordination with other agencies, including the Land and Survey Department.

“As a people’s representative, my commitment is to ensure that the voices of the people are heard and their needs addressed,” he said.

“While development may take time, we will continue to improve facilities step by step for the benefit of the people,” he added.
