SIBU (Dec 28): Frequent power outages — especially during heavy rain and strong winds — continue to plague residents of Jalan Tien King and areas near Jalan Kiang Hin Primary School.
According to Penghulu Stephen Yong, the disruptions were caused by loose electrical cables hanging from trees and overgrown vegetation, with some neutral cables improperly insulated.
“During strong winds, the exposed cables often touch each other and trigger electrical faults. In several cases, cables have even fallen onto the roadside, creating serious safety hazards.
“Despite repeated complaints to the Sarawak Energy office in Sibu, no effective action has been taken so far,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.
He urged the relevant authorities to take immediate action by securing and reinstalling the cables properly onto utility poles and clearing overgrown trees and vegetation along the roads.
“Prompt attention is crucial for protecting public safety and preventing further disruptions,” he said, adding that photographic evidence showing the hazards had been submitted to the relevant authorities.
