KUCHING, April 7: A 24-year-old motorcyclist was killed after a lorry ran a red light and collided with his motorcycle at the traffic lights at Jalan Pelabuhan last night (April 6).

Kuching District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu disclosed that the crash occurred at around 9.30pm when the lorry, travelling from Jalan Setia Raja towards Demak Laut, failed to stop at the red light, colliding with the motorcycle ridden by a local man traveling from Jalan Merican Salleh.

“The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by an assistant medical officer from Sarawak General Hospital.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement today.

Kuching police have urged anyone with information about the crash to contact traffic investigating officer Inspector Muhammad Amirul Azami Ahmad Rasol at 016-8593994 or 082-259900, or to approach the nearest police station.
