KUCHING (Jan 2): The Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex (ICQS) Biawak in Lundu near here served as a strategic celebration site on New Year’s Day, marking its role as a key entry point and transportation hub in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).

The complex was among selected entry points across Sarawak that participated in nationwide celebrations aimed at promoting Malaysian hospitality and raising awareness for VM2026.

Kuching Resident Dayang Joanita Awang Morshidi officiated at the event.

In a Facebook post, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) stated that the celebration was an initiative of the state Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, together with Tourism Malaysia.

“ICQS Biawak was chosen as a major entry point in Sarawak due to its strategic location as a gateway connecting Sarawak with Kalimantan, Indonesia.

“The Lundu facility has long been an important access point for Indonesian tourists visiting Sarawak.

“The celebration also reflects the ongoing commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s image as a world-class tourism destination and promoting Sarawak’s unique culture, natural treasures, and diverse tourism products,” said Ukas.

It added that the Sarawak government, through relevant agencies, would continue to support the VM2026 campaign to ensure that tourism would remain a major contributor to both the state and national economy.
