KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 28): Malaysia has agreed to accept the offer from the Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) to host the 2027 SEA Games, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) announced.

It said the decision was made at the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today, after taking into account the commitment pledged by Sarawak, Sabah and Penang to co-host the games.

“Sarawak, Sabah and Penang have expressed their willingness to use their own allocations to co-host the Games with Kuala Lumpur,” the ministry said in a statement.

Last Saturday, the Prime Minister announced that the government has agreed to designate Sarawak as a co-host of the regional sporting event in 2027 after the state demonstrated its capability to host major sporting events with outstanding management of the Sukma 2024.

The announcement was also lauded by the National Sports Council, saying that it was a positive sign for the country’s sports industry, especially in the effort to improve the performance of national athletes.

Meanwhile, KBS also congratulated the Sarawak Government and the Sukma XXI Organising Committee for successfully managing the organisation of the Games which ended on Aug 24. – Bernama
