Man arrested for allegedly trying to steal from Miri supermarket

MIRI (March 7): The police arrested a 49-year-old local man who allegedly attempted to steal items from a supermarket near Piasau Utara here.

Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Abdullah in a statement said the suspect’s attempted theft was caught by closed circuit television (CCTV), and the footage had since gone viral on social media.

“The suspect was successfully apprehended at a petrol station in Miri city while he was preparing to flee to another district.

“He is currently being held in police lock-up, and a remand application will be made on March 7 to facilitate further investigation under Section 380/511 of the Penal Code,” he said.

Mohd Farhan reiterated the police’s continued commitment to combating criminal activities, and welcomed cooperation from the public in providing information to assist investigations.
