The metal spike seized by police.
MIRI (Jan 2): A man was arrested in Lawas on Wednesday after allegedly threatening his elder sister with a metal spike along Jalan Lawas–Damit.
Lawas District Police Chief DSP Liong Tindan confirmed that the 38-year-old self-employed suspect was detained following a police report lodged by the 41-year-old victim at about 9.30pm.
“Acting on the report, a team of police officers went to the suspect’s house and successfully arrested him,” he said in a statement.
Preliminary investigations found that the suspect, the victim’s younger brother, allegedly acted out of anger for reasons that are still being investigated.
“A metal spike believed to have been used by the suspect to threaten the victim was also seized.
“A check on the suspect’s criminal background revealed that he has four previous records related to crime and drugs,” Liong added.
Urine tests conducted on the suspect returned positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
In a separate incident on the same day, a 41-year-old unemployed woman was arrested along a road in Lawas town at about 11.30pm on suspicion of drug use.
“An inspection found no illegal items or drugs in her possession. However, a urine test returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, and a background check showed she has two prior records,” he said.
In another operation, a 26-year-old local man and a 34-year-old woman were detained inside a vehicle at about 1.50am after exhibiting suspicious behaviour.
“Urine tests revealed that both suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. One of them was also found to have a previous drug-related record,” Liong said.
Both cases are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
