The victim’s boat found adrift at the Batang Oya river mouth this morning.
MUKAH (Jan 3): A 28-year-old man is feared drowned after reportedly falling from his boat while fishing alone at the Batang Oya river mouth this morning.
Sibu Zone 4 Fire and Rescue (Bomba) chief Andy Alie said the victim had yet to be located as of 6pm today.
“Our team is actively conducting search and rescue operations together with other agencies.
“We urge the public to exercise caution when near rivers and always adhere to safety measures,” he said in a statement.
According to Andy, the emergency call was received at 9.23am, and rescue units arrived at the scene, approximately 21km from the station, at 9.46am.
The search-and-rescue (SAR) operation involved four fire personnel from Mukah Bomba Station, using one boat, an Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) vehicle, and a 4×4 vehicle, in cooperation with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM).
