KUCHING (Dec 26): A man was fined RM3,000, in default 10 months’ imprisonment, by the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty to abusing drugs.

Magistrate Long Hui Chuan also ordered 42-year-old Yusman Bakar to be placed under the supervision of the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) for two years after completing his sentence.

Yusman, who appeared in court unrepresented, was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The law provides for a maximum of two years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM5,000, and supervision for two to three years upon conviction.

According to the charge, Yusman committed the offence at the office of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division, Kuching District Police Headquarters, at about 11.55am on Aug 25 after being tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

Both substances are listed under the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Fauzulutfi Suriani.
