KUCHING (Feb 11): The Magistrates’ Court here fined a man RM3,500 in default 10 months’ imprisonment for making an obscene gesture towards another individual.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan convicted Mohd Nurikhmal Sahmuri Abdullah Ramzi, 23, on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 507B of the Penal Code.

The Section provides for up to five years’ imprisonment or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Mohd Nurikhmal committed the offence at a house in Kampung Semariang Jaya here at around 12.10pm on Feb 7, 2026.

Based on the facts of the case, the 34-year-old victim rushed to the front door of his house after hearing a loud bang and discovered that it had already been broken.

Standing at the front door was the accused, who flashed his middle finger at the victim and ordered him to leave the house.

The victim, who did not know why the accused had behaved in such a manner, went on to file a police report.

Police arrested Mohd Nurikhmal at around 12.55am the next day.

Earlier in the same courtroom, the accused claimed trial to a charge of committing mischief by breaking the front door of the house.

The charge was framed under Section 426 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to five years in prison or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The court fixed March 12, 2026 for case management and granted the accused bail of RM1,000 with one local surety.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Afiq Safly Nor Kazly prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented.
