Man in Kuching jailed 18 months for stealing motorcycle

KUCHING (Sept 6): A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 months in jail by the Magistrates’ Court here today for stealing a motorcycle belonging to a 42-year-old man.

Mojhd Sharul Yahya pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan after he was charged under Section 379A which carries a jail term which may extend to seven years, or a fine, if convicted.

Mohd Sharul committed the offence at 11.29pm in front of a bank at Jalan Rock on Aug 22, 2024.

Based on the facts of the case, the motorcycle owner lodged a police report on his missing vehicle. The estimated loss was RM8,000.

Investigation found that the whole incident was recorded by a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera and eventually led to Mohd Sharul’s arrest.

The case was prosecuted by Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while Mohd Sharul was unrepresented.
